Founded in 1877, CWS helps people who face barriers to work obtain employment and achieve self-sufficiency through innovative job training, placement and support services.
Capitol Hill Report
Tanya Figelman, CWS Director of Program & Services attended the Capitol Hill Report with U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley, an event organized by the New England Council. The discussion focused on the work being done in Congress, with Representative Pressley highlighting key legislative priorities and policy initiatives impacting both the region and the nation. The event provided valuable insights into current congressional efforts and fostered dialogue between policymakers and local leaders. Topics included the funding implications of federal programs and ongoing developments in immigration policies that could affect many of our participants.
CWS Job Fair
CWS is proud to continue hosting job fairs that create meaningful connections between participants and local employers. Our June 18th Job Fair was a well-attended event, with over 60 participants and several employers, including Walnut Street Community Center, Tatte Bakery & Cafe, and the Boys and Girls Clubs. In addition, representatives from the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) and Baystate Services hosted tables and shared information about the support services they provide.
Community Resource Fair
On May 9th, CWS Case Manager, Laura Kelly, and Employment Specialist, Chris Polcari, represented CWS at the Community Resource Fair hosted by Mothers for Justice & Equality. They hosted a table to share information about our programs and services with prospective participants and local organizations interested in partnership opportunities.
Participant Success Story
After many years of limited success with large training organizations, Russell turned to CWS in search of a more personalized approach and a supportive team.
He enrolled in the At Your Service (AYS) Hospitality Training Program and credits the course, along with the guidance of his Case Manager, Amanda Ofria, with helping him to secure a full-time position with a leading transportation company. Russell is currently focused on obtaining permanent housing and exploring additional training opportunities. We look forward to continuing to support him as he advances in his career.
