Find your superpower with National Grid! We are pleased to launch National Grid's New England Energy Infrastructure Academy (EIA) to prepare you for entry-level, full-time, union roles. Our Workforce Development team will provide you with training, career readiness, and connections to competitive union roles in Massachusetts at National Grid.

Program Details

The purpose of the Energy Infrastructure Academy (EIA) is to prepare candidates from underrepresented backgrounds for entry level to mid-level union roles with National Grid, an international energy company. The Fall 2026 cohort begins Monday, October 9, 2026. Over ~200 hours, participants will develop a combination of technical and soft skills, hands-on job experience with National Grid staff, networking and mentorship, in preparation for full-time union role opportunities with earn-while-you-learn on the job training. Graduates also receive a registered pre-apprenticeship certificate from the Division of Apprentice Standards.

Skills and Experience Gained

The ElA program will focus on essential energy skills and select certifications applicable for roles of the future. Learning elements include, but are not limited to:

• On-Site National Grid real-world experience with technical and soft skills development, networking, and mentorship
• OSHA 10 safety preparation
• ElA Certification of Completion

Sample Roles Upon Completion

• Full-time role opportunities subject to change based on National Grid's capacity and demand.
• Primary work location may vary within Massachusetts.
• Hybrid schedules dependent on business needs.
• Starting wages between $19.50 - $29 / hour plus over-time, full benefits and union membership

• Meter Service Representative (Gas & Electric): Perform all meter reading activities and other services.
• Pipe Handler: Perform labor including excavation, backfilling, pipe handling, and fittings
• Utility Helper: Perform civil construction duties related to maintenance and construction
• Driver Helper: Perform driving, hoisting, and rigging duties for maintenance/construction
• Revenue Services Associate: Perform analysis and problem-solving necessary to facilitate a timely and satisfactory response to customer issues and concerns.

EIA Participation Requirements

To take part you must be at least 18 years old, have U.S. work authorization, a valid U.S. driver's license, a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to abide by National Grid's Code of Ethics.
